On 14th of January 2019 Mr Paweł Adamowicz, Mayor of the City of Gdańsk, died in result of injuries received last evening. This unimaginable act of violence shook the entire community. Mr Adamowicz presented himself as a friend of scouts and guides from all over Poland.

For his involvement in supporting Scouting in Gdansk Chief Scout of the ZHP presented to the Mayor an Honorary Honour “Reliable Friend”, which is the expression of the greatest recognition of the Polish Scouting & Guiding Association for non-members of the ZHP. Mayor Adamowicz graduated law at the University of Gdańsk. He was elected a councilman of the city of Gdansk in 1990, in the first free local government elections after the fall of communism. He held the post of the Mayor since 1998. In the autumn of 2018, has been re-elected for 5-years term. Mr Mayor was devoted to residents, focused on social issues and education. During the Closing Ceremony of the ZHP National Jamboree Mayor Adamowicz said to the gathered scouts: “In two years, all the scouts of Europe will come to Gdańsk, and the city will become the European capital of Scouting. You are the scouts, you are the future of Europe.” The Jamboree Executive Team connects in thoughts and prayers with the family of Mr Adamowicz. We will continue efforts to deliver the European Jamboree 2020 as the most inspirational and uniting event for young Europeans.
