On Tuesday 23rd July 45,000 scouts from all over the world took part in the Opening Ceremony of the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA. The Jamboree offers the opportunity to experience new adventures, cultures and friendships and brings together scouts from 167 countries to share in the event at the Summit Bechtel Reserve.
The participants will share in a 12-day international experience with the theme of “Unlock a New World”. The activities will focus on a number of topics including; sustainability, poverty, hunger, and conflicts.
The Jamboree wouldn’t be possible if not for the hundreds of volunteer staff, or International Service Team (IST). Aged 18 years and above the IST will work in teams to create and ensure the smooth running of the Jamboree in a huge variety role including Event Team, Visitor Experience and any number of activities. Many of the 24th World Scout Jamboree’s IST members are part of the European Jamboree Planning Team already. If you are IST in West Virginia it’s not too late to join the European Jamboree family.
