Association:

This contingent is made up of members of the Irish Girl Guides, established in 1911, and the Catholic Guides of Ireland, founded in 1928. Together these groups formed the Council of Irish Guiding Associations in 1992, to allow all Guiding members on the island to be part of WAGGGS and to facilitate international opportunites for members of both organisations. CIGA has 15,876 members across the two organisations.

The head of this contingent is Lorna Finnegan, previous international commisioner of the Irish Girl Guides.

Country:

Ireland is an island country in the North Atlantic Sea with an area of 84,421km2. Ireland is known as the emerald isle, due to the vast amount of green areas across the country. While the majority of people in Ireland speak English, the official language of the country is Irish (Gaeilge). There’s a lot to see around Ireland, with famous natural landmarks such as the Cliffs of Moher, beautiful sea cliffs along the west coast of the country and the Giants Causeway an area of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns! Outside of the natural environment, Ireland also has a rich cultural heritage, with numerous famous writers, artists and musicians!
