The Lithuanian scout movement first began in 1918 when the first troop was founded in the capital city, Vilnius. Scouting florished in the country until 1940, when it was banned. In 1995 the main scouting organisation, Lietuvos Skautija, was founded, with Lithuania rejoining WOSM in 1997.

Lithuania is a European country considered to be one of the Baltic states. It has an estimated population of 2.8 million. Today it’s area is 65,300km2 but at the end of the 14th century it was the biggest country in Europe!
