EJ2020 Update for the European Guide and Scout Conference

Opublikowany przez Karola Gzyl Czwartek, 29 sierpnia 2019

We still have time to panic constructively. Imagine 10,000 scouts and guides taking actions as Greta takes. Imagine those 10,000 multiplied by 10, 100… During the European Jamboree 2020, we want to WAKE UP scouts and guides. We want to empower them through 21st Century Skills. We want to encourage them to LOOK AROUND with guidance of the Sustainable Development Goals. And finally, we want them to ACT for climate change.

The Educational Programme of the jamboree is focused on specific examples, how to act with local communities and even more strongly raise awareness of our young people. This programme theme aligns with the new Regional Scout Plan of the European Scout Region and climate change and environmental development motion of the Europe Region WAGGGS.

Only eleven months remain to the Opening Ceremony of the European Jamboree 2020 to be held in Gdańsk, Poland. We are in a half-way to the event of the next Summer. In the course of preparation, we have created a unique environment to support the delivery of the jamboree that can positively influence the young generation of future leaders of Europe. The Jamboree Organisation works closely with our Europe Region of WAGGGS and the European Scout Region WOSM. Together with the committee members, regional volunteers and professionals — so-called the Jamboree Advisory Group, we work hard to provide your Scouts and Guides with the life-changing experience. At this point, I would like to thank the regions for smooth communication and joint efforts, because this European Jamboree is our joint initiative.

The Jamboree Executive Team interacts with the key external partners that I would like to recognise this afternoon. At the first place, the Municipality of Gdansk – our crucial ‘partner in crime’. Scouting and Guiding are about brotherhood and sisterhood. The City of Gdansk is about solidarity and freedom. These two concepts fit perfectly with the educational theme of the European Jamboree. At this session, we have a representative of the Mayor of Gdansk, Miss Malgorzata Franczak. Dear Malgorzata, Thank you for all support that the City of Gdansk support to the Scouting and Guiding Family!
It is also worth to mention that the Jamboree has gained the honorary patronage of the Council of Europe. We cooperate with the European Union’s institutions. Next month thanks to the support of the European Solidarity Corps four international volunteers will join the Jamboree Office in Warsaw for one-year-long adventure. Benefiting from the Visegrad Cooperation we will be able to organise in the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk the Youth Climate Forum that will be a strong voice of Guiding and Scouting in the debate on climate changes.

We are very happy to share with you some updates on our work.

First of all, We are extremely happy and proud to tell you that according to already received registrations and the ones that are still are on the way, we expect to have in total around 13,000 participants, adult leaders, ISTs, and CMT members.

We have contingents from 47 European NSOs and MOs and many more registering now from other Scout and Guide regions, including delegations from Australia, New Zealand, Hongkong, Egypt, Brazil, the USA, Canada and many more.

Till December 2019 we have opened the registration for IST and we very much count on you to encourage as many IST as possible to join the European Jamboree 2020.

We have the international planning team in place still announce new open calls. Please follow our website and social media channels and share opportunities there announced within your NSOs and MOs.

As was mentioned before, we reached the half-way point in our preparation. Behind us already: 1 study visit, 2 HoC meetings, 4 bulletins and many, many, many hours of work, calls and meeting.

In front of us, last year of preparation and we are very much looking forward to it.

See you in Gdansk at the European Jamboree 2020!
