Open Call: Long-term volunteers

Ready to act?  Yes, so this is the opportunity you cannot miss!  We are looking for 4 long-term volunteers who will join us in an exciting adventure which is organising the European Jamboree 2020.

Who are we looking for?

People who are at the age between 18 and 30, citizens of the European Union country (or with a legal stay of any of the EU countries), enthusiastic about Scouting and Guiding and keen to learn a lot of new things and prepare with us the amazing event.

What do we offer?

10 months (October 2019 – August 2020) in Poland in a Jamboree Planning Team which will give you possibility to learn about promotion, logistics, translations, planning activities, collaboration with other organizations, possibility to participate in the European Jamboree 2020 where you will have a chance to meet people from all of Europe, and not only.

The Host Organisation of the European Jamboree 2020, Związek Harcerstwa Polskiego (The Polish Scouting & Guiding Association) is looking forward to welcome 4 long term volunteers ready to help in developing and delivering the European Jamboree 2020.

The Jamboree will gather more than 15,000 scouts and guides from Europe and other regions of WOSM and WAGGGS. The Jamboree is an educational event focused on personal development of young people, supported by adult volunteers – the International Service Team. The Jamboree will be held in Gdansk on Sobieszewska Island. Main programme theme of the Jamboree is “Act!” – scouts and guides will be encouraged to discover their strengths and take real actions on their local societies. Vast majority of the programme activities will be connected with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.  

The European Jamboree 2020 is a joint event of the World Organization of the Scout Movement and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, hosted by the ZHP in Gdansk under the auspices of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

The volunteers will work in the Jamboree Office together with professional staff and members of the Jamboree Planning Team. Main tasks areas will be connected with Contingent Support, Educational Programme Development, Communications, Translation Services.

The volunteers will help in a creative way shaping the European Jamboree 2020 and its relations with key stakeholders of the Jamboree Organisation: National Contingents, Participants and Media.


The volunteers are hosted in the volunteers’ house shared with several young people of different cultures. When the activities require the volunteer to commute to the working place, the hosting organisation provides the reimbursement of any transportation expenses.

After moving to Gdansk for the period of delivery of the Jamboree, the volunteers will be hosted in the hotel/hostel, the same facility as the European Jamboree Staff, at the same conditions.

This role may require participation in meetings and events held in different locations in Poland and/or in other European countries. In this case the Jamboree Organisation provides transportation, accommodation and board for the volunteers.


The Jamboree Organisation provides support and training in the area of social animation, intercultural education, communication and non-formal methodology. Depending on the volunteer’s interest the Jamboree Organisation may also offer training or practical experience in other areas such as coordination, administration, public relations or organisation of big scale events.


The following characteristics complete the basic profile of the volunteer:

  • Creative thinking including the ability to propose solutions in response to communication challenges and communication priorities
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work as a productive and positive member of a team
  • Ambition for continuous learning and personal development
  • Capable of working with Scout/Guide volunteers at national, regional and global levels
  • Advanced in English, literacy in Arabic, French, Spanish and/or Russian will be an asset
